What is SEDEX?

SEDEX (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange) is a non-profit membership organisation that operates a collaborative platform for companies to share ethical and responsible supply chain data. Over 85,000 companies in 180 countries use SEDEX to manage and improve their supply chain practices.

What is SMETA?

SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) is the audit methodology developed by SEDEX. It assesses supplier sites against four key pillars — making it one of the most comprehensive ethical trade audit frameworks available.

The Four SMETA Pillars

• Labour Standards: Working hours, wages, child labour, forced labour, discrimination and disciplinary practices
• Health & Safety: Workplace safety, fire safety, building integrity, machinery safety and emergency procedures
• Environment: Environmental management, waste, energy use, water consumption and pollution controls
• Business Ethics: Anti-bribery and corruption, sub-contracting controls, and management systems

SEDEX Membership Types

SEDEX offers different membership types. As a supplier (Type B or AB member), you can receive and share audit data with multiple buyers through a single platform — reducing the need for repeated audits.
